A Long weekend, Cup Round and only one match saw the B’s move into the next round of the Cup.
Fielding a team that represented a cross section of the club and squads from A to E Grades the B’s travelled north to take on Sunday Div 2 side Munno Para City. OISC dominated early play pushing into attack and maintaining sustained pressure on the Munno defence. OISC took the lead after 15 minutes with a classic low drive from Vossy which shot past the keeper. The midfield tirelessly continued to push hard to extend the advantage with Adam Sorgini using his pace and freedom on the wing to run the ball out of defence and put it into the box giving chance after chance to extend the lead. Similarly Anthony Aoukar was able to replicate this play down the other wing. As the half wore on Munno Para began to get themselves into the game starting to get some shots away only to be denied by Emerson Ciccarello who commanded the area and pulled off a number of diving saves sending the ball wide (and rolling down the hill!). Leading into half time OISC should have extended the advantage with Tarek Tabet returning to form and fitness putting in some great strikes that went narrowly wide. Just short of half time however Munno drew level with an unlucky deflection off Andrew Talbot from a Gary Dal Broi clearance finding its way into the net. In the second half OISC took proper control of the match with the same intensity of the first half maintained, taking the lead with one powerful Tarek strike finally making it into the net. Munno again pressed using the pace of their winger down the left side to get some shots away only again to be denied by a diving Ciccarello. A half volleyed goal from Ooks from 12 metres extended the advantage. A sealer came close in the final minute of the match when the little master Rocco D’Onofrio was given his big chance by Coach Buckley only to not take a touch and send Adam Sorgini’s best cross for the day wide. In the end however it was a very satisfying 3-1 victory and passage to the round of 16.
All teams return to action next week with the A/B/C Grades heading down Greenhill Road to take on Comets, the D/E Grades making the leisurely drive to Birdwood to take on Torrens Valley and on Sunday the OISC women head south to take on Mercedes OC.
