Weekly Wrap – Week 5

Both the A and B Grades progressed in their Cup round ties against M United Stars & West Adelaide Raptors respectively, whilst the Lady Wolves continued their brilliant streak as they notched yet another strong win. The weekend saw two brilliant hat-trick’s from the stars in the A’s and Lady Wolves which led them to their respective victories. Here are all the key moments from the weekend as they happened.

The B Grade opened the Cup round for OISC against Sunday Div 2 side West Adelaide Raptors and looked to ensure they progressed further than their Round 1 exit in 2016. The game opened with plenty of early shots, with the first goal coming mid-way through the first half as Tim Pears sent a cross into the box for Curtis Covino to slot into the bottom corner. The Raptors awoke from their stupor and took advantage of a lull in OISC’s defensive structure to score and level matters and the teams went into the half time at 1-1. The second saw OISC begin to make their dominance count and maintained possession. From a corner kick Raf Ceravolo managed to head the ball to Tom Smith who notched the second of the match. Shortly after Shaun George scored the third and the B’s wound up 3-1 winners to progress to the next round.

The A Grade looked to repeat last year’s brilliant cup run which saw them reach the semi-finals. OISC opened up against Sat Div 3 side M United Stars as stars themselves with a James Buccella cross to Peter Kotzias who in turn set up Mike Manou beautifully making it one nil early on. It then became the Barbs show for the rest of the half as he duly notched his hat trick to help solidify OISC’s dominance and a 4-0 half time lead. However in the second half things were slightly different as M United Stars struck twice early which would see them make it 4-2 and the match was back on. Plenty of chances abounded for both teams, and M United Stars would get a third with a prospective halfway shot. OISC managed to hang onto the result and progress to the next round with a 4-3 win.

Finally the Women played in a top of the table clash against Mercedes OC as they looked to solidify their position on the table.  OISC opened up with a few good chances early on and their pressure paid dividends as Eirini Vrodos would switch to Eliza Sims who notched the opener, before Tess Keenan would put Eliza through again to make it 2-0. Eliza would score her third soon after, but Mercedes would finally start to place some pressure on OISC, and would score their first of the game via a long range chip from outside the box. Eliza would hit her fourth to see the Ladies enter half time 4-1 up. In the second half Mercedes would cut OISC’s lead via a penalty and a third goal to bring the match back to the 4-3 scoreline seen the day before but Eliza would put her team at ease as her hit her fifth (boy did she eat her weet bix that morning :P). Sarah Tronnolone would then hit the sixth, and Gabby Parente would notch their seventh to ensure they would win 7-3 and move to the top of the table.

Next weekend the A/B/C Grade travel to take on Titans in some huge matches, while the D/E Grades travel to the wide expanses of the Strathalbyn Recreation Reserve. The Lady Wolves have the weekend off.

Make sure you get back to The Maylands Hotel this weekend after the game and celebrate another successful weekend for OISC!!!
