Weekly Wrap – Week 15

Relocated matches, cancelled matches and a few games of cards headlined a weekend where the weather again dictated which teams took to the field.

Conditions at the Superdome saw the D and E Grade matches against Adelaide Uni Grey and the C Grade fixture vs Sturt Marion all postponed.

The B Grade meanwhile headed down to league HQ at Grange to take on Sturt Marion and began in a lacklustre fashion with Sturt putting the OISC defence under sustained pressure but they were able to hold firm with Ronnie Arboit also putting in some key saves. In the second half OISC again found themselves under defensive pressure but managed to take the lead against the run of play through an Anthony Aoukar goal. Not to be outdone OISC began to build some attacking momentum and a Simon Ventoruzzo strike into the corner extended the advantage. As the half wore on both sides continued to be threatening at either end but unable to break through. Late in the half however OISC was awarded an indirect free kick in the 6 yard box which saw Sturt players line up on their goal line “for their photo to be taken” but in vein as the resulting Callum Watson shot rocketed past them to give OISC a 3-0 win and their second consecutive clean sheet.

The A Grade likewise began in a lacklustre fashion with Sturt dominating play early taking advantage of OISC’s lack of organisation and drive to take an early 2-0 lead, capitalising on keeping and defensive errors. The lead should have been far greater had Sturt been able to take all the opportunities that they created. OISC suffered an early blow when Carbs was subbed following a heavy clash. After half time OISC appeared to not start playing from the whistle as Sturt was able to simply walk right through and extend the advantage to three within the opening 20 seconds of the half. Again OISC found itself in a position where they were able to switch on after half time. The introduction of Simon Ventoruzzo up front however began to give OISC some run and attacking power. With that chances began to be created but none were able to be converted and in the end Sturt were able to capitalise on a very poor OISC performance to take a 3-0 victory.

The OISC women also enjoyed an unexpected week off and win with Pembroke unfortunately forced to forfeit the match.

Next week all teams are once again scheduled to be at Glenunga with the A/B/C Grades taking on Vipers while the D/E Grades play Cove. The OISC women meanwhile take on Birdwood High.

Thanks to all of those who attended Poker Night on Saturday night, a great night was had by those in attendance with some serious competition to get to the final table. Dishonourable mention to the winner.

The Cup Quarter Final draw has been made with the B Grade scheduled to take on Sunday Premier club Salisbury Florina on SUNDAY 10 August at Underdown Park, Salisbury North. Make sure if you are cup tied you are available for selection and otherwise make sure you get out to support the B’s in their bid for a Semi final birth.
