Weekly Wrap – Round 2

Welcome back to the first weekly wrap of Season 2013 (yes we know this is Round 2, but this is the first wrap). The club taking away four wins and 12 points from the six matches played, with 24 goals scored across Saturday and Sunday.

The E Grade made the trip down to McLaren Vale to take on McLaren Districts with Danzo’s men enjoying a convincing 4-0 win. David Leach proving that he can still do it scored a brace with Gabriel Soriano also scoring his first goal for the club. They were also helped by the McLaren Districts keeper putting away an own goal . A clean sheet from OISC keeper Mark Andrawos gave them a flawless result.

The D Grade didn’t find the going as easy as the E’s with them fighting hard against McLaren Districts with both sides looking for their first win of the season. In the end Ivan’s boys fell short with a 3-1 defeat. A goal to Davide Cavuoto did provide something for the boys to celebrate.

The C Grade didn’t have to travel as far south, but still headed south to take on Sturt Marion. With Sturt coming off a convincing win last week, Greg’s squad came to play and comfortably took the points with a 3-0 win. David Williams again got on the scoresheet as did Raffaele Ceravolo and captain Frank Maio.

With Rocco away still on his European “Business Trip” the B’s took the early advantage over Sturt Marion with Andrew Rossi sneaking the ball into the back of the net from close range to give OISC an early lead. Clearly the better side the team had many more chances through the first half to extend their advantage but had to settle with a 1-0 advantage at half time. In the second half the B’s looked to hold on to their advantage and seal the game, but some defensive errors enabled Sturt to get back into the game and capitalise on the errors to defeat OISC 2-1.

The A Grade fielded a somewhat different looking line-up with a number of players unavailable this week. Nevertheless OISC were clearly the dominant side putting three past the Sturt Marion keeper in the first half to go into half time 3-1 ahead with many chances to have a greater advantage. Controversy was never far away with OISC having a clear goal disallowed for Chris Gauro when the referee determined that the keeper had been interfered with despite the ball having clearly passed him before any alleged incident took place. The second half took a different look with Sturt electing to change their keeper. They manage to quickly bring the score back to 3-2 and then were lucky to bring it level when again a dubious refereeing decision saw a penalty awarded. Determined to not let the game be taken away from them by such things OISC scored two more before the final whistle with Adam Carbone completing his hat-trick and singles to Chris Gauro and Marius #Zanin giving OISC a well deserved 5-3 win.

Meanwhile on Sunday at the Glenunga Superdome in the rain the OISC women took on Adelaide Uni Grey looking to get their first points of the season. It wasn’t long before OISC took the lead through a Niki Kapnistis goal. Despite having a clear advantage over their opposition the OISC women still put together many strings of good play which went unrewarded with shots going wide or over the cross bar. In the end the girls took a crushing 10-0 win with the other goals being spread between Sarah Tronnolone and Leah Contos who both scored hat-tricks, Alysia Panagakos (2) and Chloe Murray with her first goal for the club.

Following a largely successful weekend for the club; a big weekend at the Glenunga Superdome awaits next Saturday with the D/E Grades facing Strathalbyn and the A/B/C grades taking on rivals St Peters. The OISC women travel on Sunday to take on Adelaide Uni Black.
