Weekly Wrap – Cup Round 2

Cup Round, Sunday and away matches headlined a weekend which only saw three teams in action.

The E Grade headed north to take on Sunday Div 2 side Para Hills East. In a match which was always going to be a challenge. Para Hills East were able to break through the OISC defence though to give them a 1-0 lead. The E Grade did well to hold their opposition out until late in the second half when chasing the equaliser, Para Hills East were able to capitalise and score twice more to give them a 3-0 win.

The B Grade headed to out to take on Sunday Div 2 side Tea Tree Gully. In a match which saw a strong line-up, OISC took early advantage with an error by the Gully keeper seeing what looked to be an own goal but a goal to Chris Gauro putting OISC ahead. After the initial period some poor decision making set in and allowed TTG to press forward and get a number of shots away. A goal to Mark Ciccarello on half time allowed OISC to extend their advantage. A third goal from an Emerson Ciccarello penalty re-kindled Rocco’s love and sealed a 3-0 victory putting them into the next round of the cup.

The A Grade meanwhile took on Sunday Premier side Elizabeth Vale. Sporting a line-up very different from a regular A Grade side OISC hoped both the experienced and young players coming into the side would give a good account. Despite Elizabeth Vale pressing forward early, a perfect opportunity sent over the crossbar early by Peter Barone would have put OISC ahead. Vale was able to capitalise on this and took the lead. OISC held them to only a two goal advantage at half time, however a third early in the second half almost sealed the result. Not giving in though OISC had several shots agonisingly close from going in and in the end leaving them to rue missed chances as Elizabeth Vale took a 3-0 victory.

Next week all teams are on the road again with the A/B/C grades returning in the league to play Comets on Greenhill Road, the D & E Grade head out to north to take on Simba Heroes. The OISC Women head south on Sunday to face Westminster.
