Glenunga Hub Grand Opening

After a long road the Glenunga Hub is officially open. An official ceremony was held on Saturday with a number of distinguished guests in attendance including; member for Unley David Pisoni MP, local Eastwood & Glenunga ward councillors Cr Di Wilkins & Cr Helga Lemon, Rose Park & Toorak Gardens ward councillor Cr Peter Cornish as well as other state MP’s, Burnside Councillors and staff.

City of Burnside Mayor David Parkin in his speech reflected on his times at Glenunga and how the site has changed over the years as well as paying tribute and offering thanks to the range of different people and organisations in attendance from the architects and builders, the council staff and elected members and the sporting clubs that call Glenunga their home for their commitment to the project. The Mayor commented on how the new multipurpose facility will transform the Glenunga site from one primarily only used by sporting clubs to one which will play host to a range of different groups offering different activities for the wider community while still keeping sport central to the daily life of the hub. The new change rooms storage facilities as well as improved lighting and playing surfaces all of benefit to the sporting clubs. The building itself was designed as a single story facility to better fit in with the surrounds of the reserve and described by the Mayor as “understated with a touch of class”.

Following the official opening and unveiling of the plaque, members of the local community in their hundreds toured the facility and enjoyed the views of the grounds from the large glass windows overlooking both ovals.

For OISC the new hub provides the club with a first class facility which will be at the forefront of amateur soccer in Adelaide, brand new change rooms, large storage, improved playing surfaces and lights coupled with a fantastic clubroom space which will provide the club with an outstanding place to watch our matches from both inside and under the veranda space as well as to congregate after training and matches and host some of the clubs larger social and fundraising functions. Check out the photos below to see the new facilities.
