Football is back with the OISC Captain’s Armband at The Maylands Hotel last night, launching Season 2016.
This is where captains are named and the direction for the new season set out.
The night opened with a welcome from OISC President, Nicholas Tallarida who thanked everyone for attending and formally announced that OISC will be entering five men’s and one women’s team in 2016. He also looked forward to a good season with the new facility offering the club a true home base which it has never had before.
The women’s team are looking forward to a strong 2016 season. Coach Con Kapnistis was pleased to be returning to the club and noted that a strong pre-season with good attendances will lead to success through the year. Sarah Tronnolone was again named Captain with defensive duo Lucia Caretti and Enya Malbon named Vice Captains.
C Grade Coach and free kick taker Leachy commented on how it was hard as a player coach to be able to do everything. With a young side he was greatful to have another older experienced head alongside him announcing Ronnie Arboit as C Grade Captain. Looking to the future of the club; David named Daniel Pace as the Vice Captain seeing it as a great opportunity for him to develop future leadership skills.
B Grade Coach Greg Buch was very confident of the prospects for his side in 2016 as they challenge for the title, seeing this as a good opportunity to develop players who can push for A Grade selection in 2016. John Smith was named Captain with joint Vice Captains Nick Barbieri and James Blake.
A Grade Coach Daniel Rossi commented on the positive pre-season of the A Grade side but stressed the need after a disappointing 2015 to continue to take things one week at a time. He also paid tribute to the work done to have the brand new Glenunga facility up and running to give the club a great head start off the field. Gary Dal Broi was announced as A Grade and Club Captain for 2016 with Julian Sartoretto and James Buccella announced as Vice Captains.
