Round Eight Saturday 7th June 08 GO BACK TO HOME PAGE DIV 1 FIRSTS 2 v 4 STIRLING Stirling came to town and got the jump on the Wolves from the first whistle this Saturday. It was an insipid and embarrassing first half display from the Wolves that can best be summed up in 4 words; Iggies nil, Stirling three. Our poor form continued in the opening exchanges of the second half as we again conceded an early goal. Once down 0-4, the Wolves decided it might be an idea to start playing. The fact that we outscored our opponents 2-1 in the second half is a clear indication that we were not defeated by a better side…rather that we were defeated by a more committed side that wanted to win (this point is quite disturbing really considering the importance of this fixture in relation to our plight to remain in Division One). In a worrying sign, we have slipped backwards towards the sort of efforts that we began the season with. We cannot expect to play only 20 minutes of committed, high intensity football in this league. We may have got away with performances like this last year in Division 2, but, as we have been repeatedly shown this year, we will be punished if we churn out rubbish like this again. On a positive note, the good form of Pavia continues to shine through. Given limited time on the pitch, Pavia is one player who is making the most of his opportunities. For the second week in a row he has come off the bench to score as the nippy little forward again provided Iggies with plenty of spark up front. The best thing about the game we love though is that the season always brings another week and another chance for redemption. A HUGE match his week against the Jets looms large on the horizon and our commitment, hardness, guts and pride will all be put under the blow torch. It would be nice to see this team stand up and meet this week’s challenge head on. The first step on the road back begins with training on Tuesday. It would be a welcome sight for Coach Romano to see a few more first team players there. DIV 1 RESERVES 1 V 3 STIRLING Goal: OG
